Roo’s Wrap – Round 1

A1 @ Goodwood vs Payneham

A2 @ Lindblom Park vs Pooraka

The B grade travelled to Pooraka for Round 1. We lost the toss and were asked to bat on a sticky wicket. Darren Martin played a lone hand batting for most of the innings and compiling a hard hitting 89 taking us to a defendable total of 171. In the field we bowled well and were in the game for most of the Pooraka innings, the seventh wicket partnership took the game away from us as they batted very well on pitch that had flattened right out. We fought to the end, with Pooraka passing the score 8 down with 2 overs remaining, eventually bowling them out for 189. Brad Tanner bowled very well taking 3 with Tim Keen also taking 3. Raj George with his off spin bowled a brilliant spell that changed the early momentum of the Pooraka innings with 10 overs 3/20 odd. Round 2 we take on Pulteney at home.

B2 @ Lockleys vs Pembroke OS

Season has started after a terrible couple of weeks weather wise, we are thankful to the curators at Lockley’s as they had got the pitch up to a great standard! C grade played Pembroke OS and with plenty of changes and 2 under 17 lads playing we went into the game fresh and ready to get off to a good start. Lost the toss and got sent into bat. We knew it was going to be tricky but as usual Lloyd Cook (24) got us off to a great start. New face Nick Oag (48) came in at 3 and with great confidence and strong square drives the runs started to pile on. Ben Wray and Jye Field (u/17) got on the board and batted well through middle overs for myself (29) and the other lower order bats to have a good hit around to get our score up to 173 off 40 overs! With a great score to defend and with a lesser experienced bowling line up, Brayden Stringer opened the bowling and got 2 for 3 off 6 overs with 5 maidens. Ryan Miller and Ben Wray then took over the middle stages with exceptional line and length bowling. They created amazing pressure and the wickets kept tumbling. Miller 4/31 (including a double wicket maiden) and Wray 2 for not many. Then Mark Hardham bowled towards the death and collected 2 valuable wickets to end the game. Rainsford for Pembroke was a danger who scored 55 but a great catch taken by Harrison Groth on the boundary and we knew the game was ours. Great start for our boys with the pressure, bowling, fielding and batting. It was the near perfect game! Fantastic efforts by the 2 under 17 lads Jye Field and Harrison Groth who looked more than comfortable playing senior cricket. Looking forward to round 2!
