Roo’s Round 5 Wrap

A1 @ Walkerville

A2 vs Rostrevor OC

In what was a disappointing game against Rostrevor there were a couple of highlights. Leg spinner Scott Fleming had a terrific game taking 4 wickets in the first innings finishing with match figures of 25.4 overs 6/75. Junior Muggleton also bowled beautifully, consistently beating the bat and was also the best performed with the bat finishing 30 not out. The other bowlers all bowled well and was great to have Sarge back in for his first two day game for the season. Woodville South next week, important game with a congested table now.

B2 vs Bye

Goodwood’s 3rd XI has a solid one day game against the bye and managed to come away without a loss. Well done lads.

C2 vs Ingle Farm

LO2 vs Adelaide Rockets

Adelaide Rockets 6/252 def Goodwood 6/249 at Lockleys Oval.

On a blistering hot day, we couldn’t have wished to play cricket at a better location than Lockleys Oval.  A few degrees cooler than elsewhere and with a nice sea breeze, an awesome pitch and beautiful surrounds.

Skipper Potts continued his winning form with the toss and elected to bat.  Knowing full well that the Rockets are known for their batting strength the aim was for a total of 230 or more.  With two Hards Brothers and Darren Martin in the team, this seemed a mere formality, and to be honest, pretty much was. Will and Bradley Hards did excellent jobs at either end of the innings but the star of the day was Darren Martin who batted extremely well for 86.  Cameo’s from skipper Potts, Jamie Scott, Jason Scroop and Tim Munro also helped us put 249 runs on the board.

Unfortunately things didn’t go our way in the field and the Rockets batsmen batted extremely well in hot conditions keeping up with the required run rate through the innings, and finally passing our score with 2 balls remaining.  Daniel Porter, Andrew Summerton and Colin Packer all doing a great job with the ball.

With an unusual ATCA draw, we play the Rockets again in Round 8, but at Cabra East this time.  Fingers crossed for a little more luck with our appeals and a different result may be ours !
