Selection Criteria

 Team Selection

  • The coach or coaches must select the team for the season that is under consideration.
  • All Goodwood Cricket Club players must be considered for a position in the team of the season, irrespective of which grade they played during the season.
  • Players must be selected using the batting averages, amount of runs, wickets taken, bowling economy, and bowling average or any other relevant statistic for the season.
  • The coach or coaches may seek assistance from captains or whoever they wish around the club.

Team Formation

  • The team must contain 11 players and a 12th man
    • Ideally the formation of the team will consist of 2 opening batsman, 3 middle order batsman, 1 all rounder, 1 wicket keeper, 1 spinner and 3 seam bowlers.
      1. Opening Batsman
      2. Opening Batsman
      3. Batsman
      4. Batsman
      5. Batsman
      6. All Rounder
      7. Wicket Keeper
      8. Spinner
      9. Seam Bowler
      10. Seam Bowler
      11. Seam Bowler
      12th Man

Position Eligibility

  • Opening Batsman – In order for a player to be eligible for the opening batsman position, the player must have opened the batting during the season “a reasonable” amount of times during the season.
  • Batsman – In order for a player to be eligible for a batsman position, the player must consistently bat in the top 8 in the games that they have played.
  • All Rounder – In order for a player to be eligible for the All Rounder position, the player must have contributed with BOTH the bat and the ball. They must consistently bat at a reasonable position in the batting order as well as bowl frequently in the games that they play. Being eligible for the All Rounder position does NOT exclude the player from being eligible for any batsman position or any bowling position.
  • Wicket Keeper – In order for a player to be considered for the wicket keeping position, they must have wicket kept in “a reasonable” amount of times during the season.
  • Spinner – In order for a player to be considered for the Spinner position, the bowler must bowl spin, and must bowl in the majority of games that they play in.
  • Seam Bowler – In order to be eligible for the seam bowler position, the bowler must be a seam bowler and bowl in the majority of games that they play in.
  • 12th Man – The 12th man should be selected as player who was closest to being selected in the original 11.
  • If a player is good enough to fit two criteria for their position, for example wicket keeper AND opening batsman, or if the all rounder is deemed to be the best spinner/one of the best seam bowlers, then the selection of the team should aim to fit the following formation.
    • 1. Opening Batsman
      2. Opening Batsman
      3. Batsman
      4. Batsman
      5. Batsman
      6. All Rounder
      7. Wicket Keeper
      8. Spinner
      9. Seam Bowler
      10. Seam Bowler
      11. Seam Bowler
      12. 12th Man
  • The team must contain an all rounder and wicketkeeper in the 11. It also must have 5 ‘realistic’ bowling options.
