Round 1: Vs Pembroke @ Lockleys
Season has started after a terrible couple of weeks weather wise, we are thankful to the curators at Lockley’s as they had got the pitch up to a great standard! C grade played Pembroke OS and with plenty of changes and 2 under 17 lads playing we went into the game fresh and ready to get off to a good start. Lost the toss and got sent into bat. We knew it was going to be tricky but as usual Lloyd Cook (24) got us off to a great start. New face Nick Oag (48) came in at 3 and with great confidence and strong square drives the runs started to pile on. Ben Wray and Jye Field (u/17) got on the board and batted well through middle overs for myself (29) and the other lower order bats to have a good hit around to get our score up to 173 off 40 overs! With a great score to defend and with a lesser experienced bowling line up, Brayden Stringer opened the bowling and got 2 for 3 off 6 overs with 5 maidens. Ryan Miller and Ben Wray then took over the middle stages with exceptional line and length bowling. They created amazing pressure and the wickets kept tumbling. Miller 4/31 (including a double wicket maiden) and Wray 2 for not many. Then Mark Hardham bowled towards the death and collected 2 valuable wickets to end the game. Rainsford for Pembroke was a danger who scored 55 but a great catch taken by Harrison Groth on the boundary and we knew the game was ours. Great start for our boys with the pressure, bowling, fielding and batting. It was the near perfect game! Fantastic efforts by the 2 under 17 lads Jye Field and Harrison Groth who looked more than comfortable playing senior cricket. Looking forward to round 2!

Round 2: Vs Marion @ Marion
First 2 day game for the season and we are playing Marion CC on their 2nd oval as their A’s were on the main oval. Flat track and short boundaries square of the wicket it was a good toss to win and bat first! 3 changes to the side with Lee Smallacombe, Ben Bronner and (debutant) Sam Fulton all in for Oag, Wray and T. Kimber. The message was clear bat the 80 overs! Terrible bowling conditions made batting easier and Lloyd Cook (50) and Sam Fulton (35) partnered up for 70 odd partnership and we were 4/120ish at tea! Jye Field (103no) batted at 5 and was outstanding showed patience and class as he batted for near 40 overs he smashed them all round the field. With some clean hitting from the tail we ended up 8/274 of 80 overs! Confident but aware what was required the 2nd week we needed to bowl full and eliminate the square boundaries! Marion started off well and were 2 for 132 at tea off 44 overs we struggled a bit! Ryan Miller (2 wickets) started us off with Brayden Stringer taking 2 catches (the 2nd one is a contender for catch of the season). After tea Stringer (1 wicket) and Mark Hardham (3 wickets) bowled really tight lines and built the pressure. Sam Fulton (3 wickets) also did the same and the wickets started to fall! Great catches from Cook, Bronner and a runout form Miller saw us get to a win bowling Marion out for 214 off 74 overs! Excellent fight in the guys when things were tough! Special mention to Jye Field who showed the talent he has and for the future!
Well done lads!

Round 3: Vs Ingle Farm @ Rowe Park
Round 3 Ingle Farm away at Rowe Park. Another challenge for the lads with another 5 changes to the team. Wray, Satanek, Cathro, Bradley and (16 year old on debut) Henry Berndt. Massive oval and a hard deck I won the toss and batted! Plenty of runs to be made with hard work and wickets in hand. Usual message to the boys, and so far it has worked. Once again we got off to a good start with Cook 18 and Cathro 44. Solid batting by Wray and Fulton saw us 2 for 80 at tea. Wickets in hand set us up with some hitting. Myself made 68 and some other good scores got us to 216. Week 2 pretty confident in defending the target we bowled tightly and well and took some great catches. Satanek took another contender at backward point. Fulton bowled well 3 wickets and (u/16) Berndt picked up his first senior wicket. Then came on Ben Wray bowled with tightly and with movement he picked up 5 for 6 of not many overs. We bowled Inlge Farm out for 53 before tea. Decision the team made was to go for outright which was always gng to be tough! We didn’t achieve this but we managed to get 4 wickets for some valuable points! Exceptional effort all round especially with our fielding and Wray taking 5 wickets. We are now 3-0 and looking forward to Sacred Heart at home next game!

Round 4: Vs Sacred Heart @ Lockleys
At home finally after 2 away games we ended up playing SHOC in a one day game as it rained the week before. Playing the top team with 6 changes to my line up was always going to be a battle. In came Brendon Bettess, Eli George, Jason Pike, John Makestas and Ben Madigan. We got put into bat and lost 2 quick wickets but Matt Bradley (25) and Ben Wray(48) settled us down. Good consistent batting from Wray and Eli George (32) got us to a reasonable total of 161. Opened the bowling with Pike and Makestas who both bowled well both claiming a wicket each. After that we fell away and didn’t have the bowling depth of the past few games. SHOC batted beautifully and got out total with 9 overs to spare. They ended up 7/235. Bit disappointing and along with some dropped catches we were never in the hunt. Good efforts by Wray, George and Bradley with the bat! Hope some of the lads learn from this experience and with a few available next game we bounce back against Hectorville in another big game in round 5.

Round 5: Vs Hectorville @ Lockleys
Hectorville at Lockley’s oval in a 1 dayer was going to be a good challenge to get us back on track after a loss in round 4. With a very strong side and a flat track we were confident to have a big day. Inclusions to the side were Tim Sargent, Adam Berry and debutant Jack Luders (u17 player). We lost the toss and had a bowl. Opened the with young Luders who bowled very quick and picked up his first senior wicket clean bowled. Hectorville then batted well and were 1/75 at drinks! After a good chat with the lads about and after drinks a superb runout from George got their danger bat out and then the wickets started to crumble. Adam Berry bowled an exceptional spell of leg spin bowling to claim 3/29 with 2 sharp stumpings from Matt Bradley and Tim Sargent bowling tight at the other end we had a great second session to bowl out Hectorville for 145. Jack Luders cleaned up the tail and ended with 4/37.
Dangerous target to chase we got off to a flying start with Cook (52) and some big hitting from Bettess (28) we were 1/80 odd at drinks! Enter Satanek (74) who ripped the game apart with big stroke playing all around the field! The runs piled on and with Berry (27no) at the other end we got the win comfortably. We ended up 3/198 at the end of our 40! Great team effort from all with a few stand out performances!
Bring on Modbury in round 6!
Cheers Simon Robinson (c)
Round 6: Vs Modbury @ Modbury
C grade played Modbury away with perfect conditions it was 2nd versus 3rd and a good chance to be 5 and 1 at the break and be in a good position for next year! Once again we had 4 changes to the side with Ned Halliday being the new face after a good 4 for in the D grade. Our bowling attack was strong so we won the toss and elected to bowl! Slow start but a strong start we had Modbury 2 for 30 odd at drinks. We then stepped up our efforts and had Modbury 6 for 75 at tea.
Some great bowling and backed up with handy fielding with 2 run outs we ended up bowling them out for 143. Mark Hardham 4/30 odd and Tim Sargent 3/30 off 21 overs.
Modbury had 21 overs that night at us and we unfortunately crumbled and were 4/11 at the end of play.
The following week we need 132 with 6 wickets in hand but we weren’t up for the fight and got bowled out for 37 which was very disappointing. We got put back in to bat and the message to the lads was not to repeat that effort and fight. We batted out the rest of the day and ended up 4/128 Tim Sargent 32no. Plenty of positives though and the lads were still happy and confident. We are 4 and 2 at the break and in a great position to have a crack at finals in the second half. Special mention to Tim Sargent and to all the bowlers!!
Merry Christmas and Happy new year!
